The phlebotomy technician facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens. The technician is often the patients only contact with the medical laboratory. The need to assure quality and patient safety mandates strict professional behavior and standards of practice for these phlebotomy practitioners.

- HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
- MUST BE AT LEAST 16 Y.O.
- VALID SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
- VALID STATE ID OR DRIVER'S LICENSE
- MUST PASS WRITTEN ADMISSION EXAM
Course Requirements
- TUBERCULOSIS SKIN TEST
- PHYSICAL EXAM
- HEPA B TEST
This is an introductory course designed to provide students with the skills to be accurate, work well under pressure and communicate effectively as part of the healthcare team. This course teaches the student to acquire manual skills such as obtaining blood specimen by venipuncture and skin puncture techniques as well as mental skills such as the ability to organize efficiently, perform under pressure and follow written standard procedures.
The student will obtain thorough knowledge of laboratory test requirements and department policies. In addition to training the student in collecting and transporting blood specimens for clinical laboratory analyses, he will be trained to assist in the collection and transportation of specimen other than venous blood ( ie. Urine, tissue, sputum).
